XS 650 Yamaha bobber?
My next project. Don't know yet if it will be full on bobber, or my first chopper. Found it calling my name in the back of a local recycling yard. $75.00 and it was mine. I have a sickness I know, but had to try and save it. Even sitting open to the elements, it kicks over and burps with good compression. Countershaft turns through all five gears too!
I'm going to get a title, then do a TC Brothers hardtail for sure. Then will make disscions on the rest as I go. Updates will be done religiously. Pics.

Nice find Ben! An xs650 for 75.00 bucks, is a steal! There is a TON of xs bobber goodies available, as EVERYBODY is building bobbers out of them. Dont think there isnt one I've not seen, so heres hoping you do something a little off the beaten track with it.
Pics my man, Lots of pics!

Here's more pics. Decieded to tear down my engine to see what I was delt.
As the engine turned over really well, I had a feeling some things would be ok. But I also dreaded seeing lots of rust, as I found this bike open to the elements with no carbs, or exhaust pipes, and and open oil filler. I was pleasantly suprised to find almost no rust. Just some watery rust in the cylinders. No, more like oily rust. The bottom end looks clean, rod big ends nice and tight, bearings smooth, and oil pump moves free and moves oil when poured into the pickup. Looked into the tranny with an inspection scope, and nothing looks amiss in there as well. So I think I will flush large quantities of cleaner through the bottm end, and put it back together, and freshen up the top end with a cylinder hone, new rings, and lap the valves. This engine shows almost no wear.

Made a valve spring tool today. Works like a champ. I spent the weekend Cleaning top end parts, and giving them a good walnut shell blasting. I have reassembled the top end to the point of cam install. Will leave it there till the next session.
Here is the tool I made.

Got the hardtail welded on. Found some cool spoke rims too. A 16" and 19" from a Kawisaki criuser. I'll have to do some slight mods to make them fit. Only have a pic of the frame tonight. Do the rims tomarrow.

Been doing some mock up on the rear rim for the Yamaha. Bought some Kawasaki rims for it awhile back. They were about an 1 1/4" to wide, so I made a few adjustments so they would fit the Yamaha spacing.

You can see the milling I did on the hub between hub and sproket.

This pic shows the brake backing plate still on the mill. I'm milling down to the blue line.

These two show the rim mounted. May still need to narrow the sproket side bearing seal area, as it is pretty close to the axle adjuster. I need to weld spacer washers on the inside of the adjusters so they fit the width of the 3/8" adjuster plates on the frame
