Very cool! Is that the makings or a hardtale in the foreground of that last picture?
Also, what kind of tank are you planning that will accomodate the extra tubing in that area?
Looking great. Love the work you've done around the neck area.

Thanks Karl!
Ken,
Yeah, thats a hardtail in the works!
Tank? I havent got a clue! Might try my hand at that.....Fact is, I was thinking about that just this morning. Not sure how hard that would be to do..but they make tank sealer so Im thinking, what the heck, go for it...The stock GS tank is like a suitcase in front of ya...dont care for that at all..I have a Virago tank laying here, but its too long. Not sure which way I'm gonna go.. The bikes backbone is 3 tubes wide at the neck that change into 2 tubes wide at the center post. Theres not to many tanks that'll fit that geometry.
Thats the fun part of this build, I'm literally winging it as I go. Got the front so far out there, afraid to call it a bobber anymore.
How about a "Chobber"!
Henry
Saw this bike at the local bike show last weekend. Im in love!

What if you did some sheet metal work and made something that looked like a tank, but the actual gas tank could be where an oil tank would be. You could do some cool sheet metal work to look like a tank, without the headaches of worrying whether it would hold fuel or not.
Just a thought...

That is my idea of a custom frame, no need to buy one. Cut, bend, and weld, until the shape looks correct.

X90,
Exactly! Its like my CB450. I get a LOT of comments because people haven't seen a CB450 frame with the hardtail angles where I have them bent at. Is it better? I dont know, its just that I did it, and its the way I wanted it..
This GS wont be any different. Ill tack stuff together, cut it apart, tack it another way until I get the look I want. That is, in my book, a custom frame. Not a store bought, precut, mass produced "custom frame" "hardtail kit" but a real custom frame! Ya can get a complete custom frame built for ya, for a couple grand, but my pockets arent deep and they have holes in 'em.
Ken, the longer I think about it, I think Im going to try and build a tank. If it ends up looking like caa-caa, no harm, no foul, cuz I wont post a pic of it! (sellective posting clause in my contract with myself). I kinda afraid of doing a remote tank thing because, well, Ill have to put some sort of fuel pump on it, wouldnt I? (if it was lower than the carbs). Im game for suggestions though!

Hey, it's easy for me to sit back and fire off ideas, I don't have to worry about how to make them work.
I'm sure whatever you come up with it will be cool. Can't wait to see this bike progress.

Made a sleeve for the backbone the other day. Figured I'd cut,fit and start welding the back bone to the neck. Ought to beef that up enough I think.
I met up with a new freind the other day from another forum I belong to. He has a bike junkyard in the neighboring town and invited me over to snoop his yard. Told me he has a GS1100 sittin there and I was welcome to whatever I wanted off of it. Here comes a new set of forks I think! Might just haul it home and use it for a parts bike, give him back what I dont need when I'm done...Great guy, into CBWhatever's....
Henry
Kind of excited to go to his yard!
