Default My update & new aquirements.

Well I haven't posted here in quite a while so here is an update. In May my ex wife from '87 called me up and asked if I could pick up her new bike for her a '09 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 LTD. Well after teaching her to ride for a while we ended up re-connecting and rode on her bike together if I wasn't riding my neighbours '05 88'' HD Superglde for most of the summer while I was going to the Workers Compensation rehab (Jan 6 to Aug. 10)and....well I'll get to the point , I wanted a bike that was dependable enough for long trips and I started liking the idea of a getting another Kawasaki Vulcan to replace my Triumph as my daily rider, I found this '96 VN800 in our town on craigslist got it for $2200 and a case of beer. The next day I stripped off the windshield, rear fender rack and crashbar, then the day after that I took it out for an 80 mile test ride and immediatley ordered a Stage 1 Dyno Jet kit. I found out that the bike already had after market pipes and a K&N air filter installed so I installed the D/J kit stage1 kit and took it out for a rip.... the bike ran way better and then I added the 165 main jet, 50 HD pilot jet, an aftermarket SU carb air filter and some 2'' Stainless steel pipe to replace the mufflers and nows runs like a totally different bike!... well here are the pics "Before and After"....now I am "Frisco-ing" it as I am riding it as I promised the wife I wouldn't take this apart so far so it can't be ridden at the drop of the hat as I convert it to my style. Oh yeah the Triumph is going to get the Turbo over the winter after all, updates to follow, cheers & I hope you enjoy the pics

1st the ex-exwife & her EN500
next mine as it slowly changes,
as I got it

then back to stock,

Getting Friscoed, I'll have to hide the spaghetti,

Then I added T bars

Well again it's been a while since I posted anything on my VN800 , so here is where I am at. I didn't really want to cut and paste all the wiring if I didn't have to. So I removed all the wiring along the back bone up to the handlebar controls and also from under the seat from their mounts and laid it out and unraveled all the tape. I then started separating some of the wiring to reroute it. I figured out that I could relocate the Junction (fuse) box and flasher unit to the tool box compartment after cutting an opening in the tool box.I then ran the wires over the coil into the fuse box and now can reinstall all the original wiring back into the left side cover. I then ran the rest of the wiring over to the right side cover and installed the Igniter box in the right side cover and a small loop of wiring will sit under the new seat.
I have removed the rear fender and fender struts and have made a rigid bar to replace the shock, I welded some sissy bar mounts on the rear of the swing arm and used this after market sissy bar I had laying around and mounted the fender I got for Christmas. I also cut down all the old fuse & igniter box tabs and removed the fender tab from the battery box + the seat support so that I could use either of my seats. One is a HD Badlander Softail seat I bought on Craigslist or my Mustang brand Universal Cobra seat for rigid frames that I ran on my Triumph.
My idea is that I can run the Badlander seat locally, change over to the Cobra in about 5 minutes when we go into the city 42 miles away with the kids or reinstall the stock rear fender / fender struts, shock, seat and gas tank in a bout 30-40 minutes for longer trips. Any ways here are some pics.Hoping to get this done by next week and get started on my Triumph with a turbo started.
Cheers, K.

Finally I'm just about done. I have the rear fender mounted & sissy bar in palce. The seat just has to have a front "socket" added to the back bone and I'll cut off the front coil tab and clean up the sides of the back bone where the old tank mounts were that I had cut off previosly. I moved the front coil into the right side cover just below the Igniter box that I relocated to the right cover. I also relocated the horn to the left side. In all I only had to lengthen the horn wires and the rear brake light wires as I moved the wires down under the engine and then up behind the engine to the side mount brake light. I also only had to shorten the the front cylinder coil power wires and the ignition switch to igniter wires when I relocated it to the right cover. Oh yeah also made a new front cylinder spark plug lead & it's a long sucker! I know it still has wiring going to the bars but they are a little cleaner looking than stock IMO. I was going to put mid controls on but decided to stick with whats there....for now anyways. I didn't go over board on this as this is my everyday rider, my Triumph is/will be the radical bike. Well here are some pics, it sittin' pretty nice now I think, cheers....
Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you guys.....I got to go riding today! It was sunny & awsome
